By I can’t recall when my affinity for skulls came about but I think they are dope! There is a tattoo of a skull on my leg, a skull head on my desk, hell I’m even wearing a t-shirt with a skull on it as I write this post.
As I was scrolling through Instagram one day I stumbled upon this giant metal skull sitting in the middle of this great room. At first, I didn’t think it was real but after a little more research I discovered that it was a sculpture created by Indian artist Subodh Gupta titled “Very Hungry God”.
Well, of course, I had to see this work of art up close but I had to travel to Paris to see it. Lucky for me I was already booked to go to Paris for a few days so it was meant for me to go right?
The metal skull is part of a collection titled “<< Adda >> / Rendez-vous” consisting of different sculptures made with various objects found by the artist. “As the kitchen is the centre of every Indian household, Gupta’s practice too is grounded in the quotidian pantry and it is from here that he reflects on not only personal and communal practices, but also on how often intimate and seemingly insignificant objects and experiences can offer a glimpse into the cosmos at large.” This exhibit is housed in the historic Monnaie De Paris located along the banks of the Seine. You don’t have to be into skulls to enjoy this exhibit you can check out some other cool pieces like:
