Located in the northwest region of Morocco, perched just below the Rif Mountains, you will find Chefchaouen, one of the most majestic cities in the world. Most known for its blue walls, this city, founded in 1471, is a must-stop when in Morocco. Some say the walls were painted blue to keep the mosquitos away. Another popular theory is that the Jews introduced the color when they took refuge from Hitler. Whatever the reason, it sure has made this Morrocan city one of the most visited in the country.
Chefchaoeun is not the most accessible city as they lack an airport; however, some buses make the trek from major cities like Fez and Marrakech. I was fortunate to take an 8-hour car service (Tangier Taxi) from Marrakech for around $400 that I split with two other people. The most popular thing to do in Chefchaouen is to shop; however, my favorite thing was to explore the town and take photos. Here is a collection of my favorite shots.
